If you love design and you are in London in September, Shoreditch Design Triangle is the place to be. It runs throughout the London Design Festival, from the 17th to the 25th of September, and it blends together a range of product launches, exhibitions, installations, workshops, talks and tours.
The truth is though, that it doesn’t only have to be during such an event to appreciate Shoreditch. The place is full of design stores, interesting restaurants and coffee shops, innovative fashion and art stores. The whole area’s energy is fresh and design-oriented.
A couple of years ago, while visiting Shoreditch for the first time, walking down Redchurch street we came across an inspiring furniture and objects store called ELEMENTARY. The aura of the store combined modern Japanese aesthetics with the atmosphere of a European art space and made us want to explore every single item displayed.
When Athena Peletidou, one of the store’s owners, came in contact with us a few months later in order to collaborate for the manufacture of some of their designs, we were absolutely intrigued.
Athena Peletidou and Kotero Kanai, who both come from an interior and furniture design background, founded ELEMENTARY in 2014. In their store, which is located in 77 Redchurch Street, you may find not only objects and brands from around the world but also their own ELEMENTARY editions.
And what made us more happy and inspired is the fact that they use marble for some of their designs!
Their marble objects, hide a deep appreciation and recognition of marble particularities. They design their objects taking into account the nature of the material. This sensible approach is exactly what makes their elegant items so unique.
We cannot wait to see the future marble objects of ELEMENTARY. Collaborations as those with Athena and Kotero are what truly inspires us and make us love our job and this exquisite material as much as we do.
